“Icons I”

icona

sostantivo femminile

Immagine sacra, dipinta su legno o lastra di metallo, decorata d’oro, argento e pietre preziose, tipica dell’arte bizantina e russa.

Icon.

Noun.

Sacred image, painted on wood or metal plate, decorated with gold, silver and precious stones, typical of Byzantine and Russian art.

Starting from the image of a statue which is part of the series of Madonnas from the project “Ade”, I thought that some images could have an iconic value.

I decided to develop this idea and to elaborate on the theme of the Icon. After the intervention in Mordançage that causes the image, which is the reproduction of the personal reality, to enter an unreal condition,  I use the application of gold leaf to make the image itself take on the attitude of an icon, such as the ancient Russian icons depicting the Madonna.

The choice of the number of nine images per project is a tribute to Andy Warhol, who with the work of the nine Marilyns cleared the image of the icon from classical to pop.
